The soundtrack on PS3 Madden 10 is another facet that will get hardcore gamers going. If all those features and upgrades haven't convinced you that PS3 Madden 10 is a masterpiece, then perhaps a trip through the sports video game timeline will. Sure, it's questionable to praise today's games simply by damning yesterday's. But when you look at the old versus the new, you can truly appreciate the epic nature of PS3 Madden 10. Obviously, football video games were on every gamer's wish list when the first console games were out there. Trouble was, the video game consoles' abilities weren't as fully realized as gamers' football fantasies, so hardcore gamers had to make do with what was there. "All the excitement" of the real thing, the game publishers crowed back then. And since it was the only game in town, this is what passed for the gridiron.
Those guys on the playing field sure couldn't pass for actual football players. That's just a harsh fact. You can tell by the image that the game wasn't much, but that's only the half of it. Put too many characters on screen at once with these older games, and every character started flashing and flickering. There's just no way to try an explain how lousy the sound was. No scrolling screen, either. Within a couple years, things would pick up slightly, with a competing console developing a football video game. This next one was a valiant attempt to make a more realistic football video game. Still needed work, though.
That one caused a huge sensation upon its arrival to the video game world, and while it set a (slightly) higher standard, this wasn't the foundation for football video games to be built on. That wouldn't come until several years down the line. This next one, coming out for the next generation of game consoles at the end of the 80s, was a sensation, and still beloved today. For a long time, it was the gold standard by which football video games were held. It's certainly easy to see why that one was a hit - the gameplay was far more sophisticated, incorporating actual offensive and defensive strategies. Football video games went to the next level with that one, due to the much needed upgrades. Judging by its online revival, people still enjoy it today in small doses. Yet, it's still a poor man's PS3 Madden 10. Once you've viewed all the other games, have a gander at PS3 Madden 10.
Yes, technology has been good to the video game world in general, and the football video game has benefitted from it all. But there's no purpose in ragging on the early games. We've made our point. The older football video games served a purpose, and set the stage for bigger, better sports video games. PS3 Madden 10 is in a whole different stratosphere than its predecessors, and for that, hardcore gamers have every reason to be stoked. Better yet, the reviewers share the same level of PS3 Madden 10 love as the fans, always a good thing. Anytime you read a PS3 Madden 10 review, you'll see things like "realistic and enjoyable." EA Sports has sacked all the competition with PS3 Madden 10, to nobody's surprise. No doubt, PS3 Madden 10 is the real sport of champions, and don't let some douchebag tell you otherwise. Not to disparage the other PlayStation sports video games - they're all pretty excellent in their own right, but PS3 Madden rules the playing field. For many, this is the PlayStation football game by which all others are measured. And it's where they separate the men from the boys, by letting you duke it out for some serious cash.
